Colonel Reb was the official mascot of Ole Miss Rebels, the collegiate athletic teams of the University of Mississippi ("Ole Miss") in Oxford, Mississippi. Designed in 1936, [1] the Colonel served as the teams' official sideline mascot from 1979 until 2003.

May 21, 2020 · Ben Williams, the history-making football star from Yazoo City, had been elected Colonel Rebel, the since-retired equivalent of Mr. Ole Miss. Dec 26, 2010 · Noted Ole Miss historian David Sansing has stated that “Blind Jim (Ivy) may have been the model for Colonel Rebel.” Sansing cites “the late Frank Everett” as the sole basis for this conclusion. [1] [2] “Blind Jim” Ivy was a campus fixture until his death in 1955, seven years before the school was integrated in 1962.

Colonel Reb, who was recently banned by the NCAA as Ole Miss' mascot is really based on an african-american custodian who worked at the school during the early 1900's.

Oct 10, 2014 · At first, Ole Miss tried to simply replace Colonel Reb. The school hosted a vote between “Rebel Bruiser, ” which was basically a bulked-up version of Colonel Reb wearing a football jersey, and “Rowdy Rebel,” a large bald man also in a football jersey.
