Mar 9, 2009 · The first real super-tankers as they were known in the '50's were down to the "Golden Greeks" Livanos, Onassis and Niarchos. BP and Shell still churning out staid looking pre war ships lacking any tonnage increase or innovative style. Taking tankers from 1948 onwards the first real super-tanker was Niarchos's US built "World Liberty."

Oct 16, 2009 · BP Jouster was launched in 1972 as 'Swansea' and renamed BP Jouster in 1975. She became Border Jouster in 1997 long after the formation of BP Shipping. She was broken up in 2005. Not bad for a little ship of DWT 2345 Shell Mex BP was broken up in 1976. BP OIL UK Ltd still exists as a subsidiary of BP plc

I worked at Falmouth Docks during the late 1950's to the early 1970's so worked on many BP Tankers. Favourites being the 12's and the 16's.

I beleive all motor and mainly 16.000t product carriers. I am not sure if they were coastal NW European and meddi trades.

All are entered on the British Register of Shipping, with the vessels principally registered at the port of Douglas in the IoM, about 3 are registered in London, 1 in Lerwick and 1 in Hamilton Bermuda.
