Marlaina Danielle Smith ECA MLA (born April 1, 1971) is a Canadian politician, former lobbyist, and former columnist and media personality who has been serving as the 19th premier of Alberta and leader of the United Conservative Party (UCP) since October 2022. Smith attended the University of Calgary and earned degrees in English and economics.

Danielle Smith is a proud Albertan. As Leader of the governing United Conservative Party, she was sworn in as the 19 th Premier of Alberta on October 11, 2022. She represents the riding of Brooks-Medicine Hat in the Legislative Assembly.

Aug 12, 2024 · Danielle Smith has been the premier of Alberta and the leader of the United Conservative Party (UCP) since October 2022. She had previously led the Wildrose Party but defected to the Progressive Conservatives in 2014. Outside of politics, she has also worked as a journalist, radio host and lobbyist for various pro-business organizations.

Smith won the 2022 United Conservative Party leadership election to replace then Alberta Premier Jason Kenney on October 6, 2022, and was appointed as the 19th Premier of Alberta. Her cabinet was sworn in on 22 October.
