Onondaga County residents, businesses and schools recycle more than 300,000 tons of mandatory and voluntary materials each year. This effort conserves natural resources, reduces greenhouse gases and supports hundreds of jobs locally and beyond.

Residents must unload their own materials. OCRRA cannot provide assistance. Commercial Hours: For hand-unloading: Monday – Friday, 6:30 AM to 1:30 PM; For dump vehicles: Monday – Friday, 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM; Holiday Closings: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Most municipalities in Onondaga County are transitioning to covered recycling carts on wheels that reduce litter, hold more recyclables and protect materials from damaging rain and snow. Blue bins are no longer being distributed by OCRRA.

In Onondaga County, trash can either be picked up at the curb by a waste hauler, or you can bring it to our Rock Cut Road Drop-Off Site in Jamesville. Our community’s trash becomes an energy source through OCRRA’s Waste-to-Energy Facility .

Operating under one of the strictest WTE air permits in the country, the Onondaga County WTE Facility turns the County’s non-recyclable trash into energy. Results of the Facility’s annual air emissions and ash residue test results consistently demonstrate the Facility’s exemplary environmental track record.

OCRRA accepts HOUSEHOLD hazardous waste materials at a special drop-off location on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, as well as the first Saturday of each Month. You must make a reservation in advance.
