Speaker Pro Tempore Laurie Pohutsky is serving her third term representing the 17th House District, which encompasses parts of Northwest Detroit, North Redford Charter Township and Northeast Livonia. She is a long-time activist and volunteer, and spent time as a crisis hotline volunteer and a caregiver at Angela Hospice.

Pohutsky was born Laurie Tennant in Livonia, Michigan.She grew up in Redford, Michigan. [1] Between 2006 and 2010 she attended Michigan State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. [2] Pohutsky then worked as a laboratory technician for several companies in fields involving food safety, toxicology and health care. [3]

I am currently serving my third term in the Michigan House of Representatives, where I serve as Speaker Pro Tempore and the Chair of the Committee on Natural Resources, Environment, Tourism and Outdoor Recreation. I also serve as the Vice Chair of the Committee on Government Operations and sit on the Behavioral Health Subcommittee.
