Terence Jerome Richardson, 53, and Ferrone Claiborne, 48, were among the 2,490 inmates nationwide whose federal sentences were commuted Thursday by Biden on his very last days in office.

On Sunday, the NAACP Virginia State Conference commended Biden for commuting the sentences of Ferrone Claiborne and Terrence Jerome Richardson.

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares issued a statement in reference to President Biden granting clemency for Ferrone Claiborne and Terrence Richardson, the "Waverly Two" whose criminal acts caused the death of Officer Allen Gibson in 1998.

President Joe Biden announced the clemency of two men who admitted to being responsible for killing a Sussex County police officer.

The men had been acquitted by a jury of the murder of a police officer, but the judge had concluded that they had been involved and sentenced them to life in prison.
