Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and allies have signed a charter that paved the way for the establishment of a parallel government, as Sudan’s army made advances recently against the rival groups.

The war in Sudan has killed more than 24,000 people and driven over 14 million people — about 30% of the population — from their homes, according to the United Nations. An estimated 3.2 million Sudanese have escaped to neighboring countries.

Egypt rejects the establishment of any parallel government to the legitimate government in Sudan, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry announced Sunday. On Saturday, Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) along with Sudanese political and armed movements signed "a political charter" in Nairobi,

Over 20 political parties, 10 civil organizations, and 5 military groups led by RSF were among the signatories.

The move comes nearly two years into a devastating war with the regular army that has uprooted more than 12 million people and caused what the United Nations calls the world's worst hunger and displacement crises.
