Haiti’s health minister has been removed from his post following a deadly gang attack on the largest public hospital in the capital, Port-au-Prince.

Haiti’s online media association said two reporters were killed and several others were wounded in a gang attack on Tuesday on the reopening of Port-au-Prince’s biggest public hospital.

The Christmas Eve attack added to an avalanche of bad news for Haiti, which was also battling damaging floods in the northern region of the country on Tuesday.

Two journalists and a police officer were reportedly shot dead, while others were wounded in Tuesday's attack in the general hospital in the capital Port-au-Prince. The site had been recaptured by Haiti's government in July, after being occupied and destroyed by gangs.

Armed men opened fire a briefing to announce the reopening of Haiti's largest public hospital, killing two journalists and a police officer.

The Haitian Association of Journalists said seven reporters were wounded in what it called "a macabre scene comparable to terrorism, pure and simple."
