Al Jardine says the death of Brian Wilson “was not expected” and that, when he last saw Wilson in May, he believed his fellow Beach Boy was recovering from some of the many health setbacks he’d suffered.

The album “Pet Sounds” would set the stage for modern music, and credit the group with a level of depth beyond surf, sand and shore.
