The ghosts of Nolan Arenado are almost gone. Almost. When the Rockies released left-handed starter Austin Gomber on Friday, the club severed ties with the last remaining player acquired in the infamous 2021 trade that sent the disenchanted Arenado — and $51 million — to the Cardinals.

PITTSBURGH — The Colorado Rockies released Austin Gomber on Friday, the left-handed pitcher who was a big piece of the trade that sent Gold Glove third baseman Nolan Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals in 2021. Gomber struggled this season, going 0-7 over 12 starts with a 7.49 ERA for the last-place Rockies. His last win was Sept. 5, 2024.

On Friday afternoon prior to their series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Colorado Rockies announced that they have unconditionally released left-handed pitcher Austin Gomber. Gomber, 31, was the final player with the Rockies that was part of the trade that sent third baseman Nolan Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals prior to the 2021 season.
