Australia ended India's nine-year reign in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, winning the series 3-1. After India's failure to qualify for the World Test Championship final Head Coach Gautam Gambhir is under fire.

With there being no Test matches for India till they travel to England in June this year following the team's 3-1 defeat to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, the national selectors now have enough time to take a call on the future of seasoned players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli last played a Ranji Trophy match in 2012 while Rohit Sharma's most recent domestic red-ball game was in the 2015-16 season.

Gautam Gambhir-coached India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years. Australia chased down the target of 162 in Sydney to win the series 3-1. The defeat in the Sydney Test match saw India lose their third series under Gambhir.

Although India head coach Gautam Gambhir did not name anyone, but his message was a clear indication towards Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to head back to domestic cricket and find their mojo.

While Rohit missed the 5th and final match in Sydney over poor form, Kohli's future has been also up for debate, owing to his poor run of form. When Gambhir was asked about their future in India's Test team, he refused to show a clear path, saying it all depends on the 'hunger' they have.

India coach Gautam Gambhir said veteran batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli still have a future in the team if they want it, despite disappointing returns on the test tour of Australia.

Gambhir makes it clear that he wants Test hopefuls to take domestic cricket seriously, and play the Ranji Trophy if they are not committed elsewhere
