Jason Buechel will expand his role to oversee Amazon’s Worldwide Grocery Stores business, including Amazon Go convenience stores and Amazon Fresh physical and online stores, while also continuing to serve as Whole Foods Market CEO.

The Whole Foods Market CEO was named leader of Amazon's grocery division, retail CEO Doug Herrington wrote in a memo to employees. In his new role, Buechel will oversee Amazon's roster of grocers, including Whole Foods, Amazon Fresh, Amazon Go and other grocery partnerships, as the division looks for ways to boost revenue.

Jason Buechel, who remains head of the specialty banner, steps into a new role in which he will also oversee the Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go chains.

Amazon named Jason Buechel, who currently serves as CEO of Whole Foods, to oversee its larger worldwide grocery business.

Buechel, a former management consultant, joined Whole Foods in 2013, and led efforts to unify the formerly decentralized chain’s technology and record-keeping systems.
