Former President Jimmy Carter is making his final journey to his hometown of Plains, Georgia where his family will participate in a final service. He will then be buried next to his beloved wife, Rosalynn Carter. The National Funeral Service for former President Carter has ended in Washington, D.C.

A state funeral for the 39th president brought together all five living presidents and featured a eulogy from President Biden.

The White House ordered public flags to be displayed at half-staff for a period of 30 days from Carter's day of death, who died Dec. 29. Flags are flown at half-mast on ships and at naval stations. On shore, flags are flown at half-staff, meaning the flagpole is attached to a building or stuck in the ground.

Trump is obviously no fan of Biden, but Obama and his veep also have a famously complex relationship, only made more so after Obama helped nudge Biden to quit the presidential race last summer. Surely Obama feels some frustration that Biden fumbled a possibly winnable race; maybe he couldn’t help spill to his sworn enemy?

1:47 p.m. Carter’s casket and family departed Joint Base Andrews on Air Force One en route to Carter’s hometown of Plains, Georgia, for a private service and burial. 12:15 p.m. Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff shook hands with President-elect Donald Trump after the funeral.
