NDRF teams in Odisha and 14 teams in West Bengal are on standby and educational institutions have been shut, as Cyclone Dana will likely make landfall in Odisha's Puri and Bengal's Sagar Island on Thursday evening.

Odisha and West Bengal are evacuating residents from cyclone-prone areas as Cyclone Dana approaches. Schools are closed in various districts until October 25, with nearly 150 train cancellations reported.

Both West Bengal and Kolkata municipal authorities have activated control rooms. Odisha has also established emergency command centers to monitor and manage cyclone-related incidents.

The depression will further intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 23 and cross north Odisha and southern West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island in the early morning hours of October 25 as a severe cyclonic storm.

The West Bengal government announced on Tuesday that schools and academic institutions will remain closed in various parts of the state following a notice from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regarding Cyclone Dana.

The cyclonic storm is likely to make landfall near Puri and Sagar coast in Odisha on October 24-24. IMD has issued heavy rainfall alert for several districts of Odisha and West Bengal.
