"A loved one witnessed her being swept away in the heavy current and attempted to grab her before being swept away," the agency said. "Due to the nature of the rough terrain and a 50 foot canyon, drones were used to do a search down river for the subject and her dog."

A 28-year-old woman is missing after she and her dog fell into a Washington state river, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Monday.

The woman in her late 20s fell with her dog around 11:45 a.m. Sunday south of Carbonado. The search was suspended hours later.
