You might see people wearing the poppy, a roundish, red flower on a lapel — especially on the Friday before Memorial Day.

Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments, and other organizations are encouraged to display flags at half-staff, the governor said in a news release.

LANSING, Mich. — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has ordered flags at half-staff for a portion of Monday to recognize Memorial Day. The flags will be lowered at sunrise and returned back to full staff at noon.

There may be a record number of travelers for Memorial Day weekend, as Michigan is open for tourism and road construction is paused.
