Gunmen have invaded another town north of Haiti’s capital, just a week after a massacre killed at least 115 people in the country’s central region.

Kenya will send 600 more police officers to Haiti next month to bolster an international anti-gang mission, President William Ruto said on Friday during a visit by the Haitian prime minister intended to speed up deployments to the force.

The October 3 attack on residents of Pont-Sondé stands as one of the largest massacres Haiti has witnessed in recent years.

Kenya has appealed for urgent financial support from the international community to sustain a police deployment in Haiti, which has been extended by a year. The multinational security mission, which began in June, is helping fight gangs controlling much of the capital, Port-au-Prince, and nearby areas.
