At least 66 are dead after the roof of a Dominican Republic nightclub collapsed as a well-known merengue singer was mid-performance, authorities said.

At least 27 people were killed and dozens more were injured after the roof of a nightclub in the Dominican Republic collapsed early Tuesday, according to emergency services officials.

Octavio Dotel, Tony Blanco and Nelsy Cruz are among those killed when a roof collapsed at the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo.

Former major league pitcher Octavio Dotel reportedly has died from injuries suffered in a mass casualty event at a nightclub in the Dominican Republic.

A Santo Domingo native, Dotel made his MLB debut in 1999 and retired in 2014. He won a World Series with the 2011 St. Louis Cardinals.

Relatives of merengue singer Rubby Pérez, who was performing, initially said that he had been rescued, but later Tuesday, officials said rescue crews were still looking for Pérez.
