Santa Monica Police have arrested over 40 individuals for various crimes, including burglary and curfew violations, during the Palisades Fire evacuations.

On the one hand, it seems kind of petty. On the other, relief workers need clear streets during these unprecedented fires sweeping through the Los Angeles area.

A Santa Monica police officer is in the hospital Tuesday after a Malibu resident ran over their foot while attempting to enter an area restricted due to the Palisades Fire.

Some looters in Los Angeles are using wildfire evacuation maps to find empty homes and burglarize them, police said. Police officers have been on high alert looking for looters ever since the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire triggered thousands of residents to flee from their homes.
