King Charles “Deeply Saddened” Over Passing of the Aga Khan IV
In July 1957, when his grandfather Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah, the Aga Khan III, unexpectedly designated Karim his successor—bypassing his other descendants—the Queen gave him the nonhereditary title of “His Highness.” At the time, he was just a 20-year-old student at Harvard. He became the fourth Aga Khan that fall.
