Cyclone Dana is expected to develop into a severe cyclonic storm by October 23, impacting Odisha and West Bengal.

Schools in as many as 14 districts of Odisha will be shut from October 23 to 25 owing to Cyclone Dana. As per an order released on October 21 by the Office of Special Relief Commissioner, schools in these districts will be closed: - Ganjam - Puri - Jagatsinghpur - Kendrapara - Bhadrak - Balasore - Mayurbhanj - Keonjhar - Dhenkanal - Jajpur - Angul

The Odisha state government has announced holidays for schools, colleges and other educational institutions in a few districts due to Cyclone Dana. According to media reports, schools in Ganjam Puri,

Odisha government has announced that schools in 14 districts of the state will remain closed from October 23 to October 25 due to the impending cyclonic storm Dana.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 25 teams—14 in West Bengal and 11 in Odisha—to brace for the cyclone’s arrival over the Bay of Bengal, which has wind speeds of 100-110 kph. State and central officials are working together to guarantee that there is little damage and are starting safety and evacuation procedures.

The India Meteorological Department said in its forecast, "…the system is very likely to cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 and early morning October 25 as a severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph with gusting 120 kmph.
