ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A suspected thief gulped down two pairs of diamond earrings during his arrest on the side of a Florida Panhandle highway last week, detectives say, leaving them with the unenviable task of waiting to “collect” the Tiffany & Co. jewelry worth nearly $770,000.

A man was arrested after possibly swallowing nearly $800,000 in jewelry he stole from an Orlando mall, according to police records.

Jaythan Gilder, 32, is accused of posing as a representative of an Orlando Magic player before he swiped two pairs of earrings worth $769,500 from a Tiffany & Co. in Orlando, police said.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported arresting a Texas man wanted in Orlando after he swallowed four stolen diamonds valued at nearly $770,000.

Florida police have to wait for the “foreign objects” to pass through Jaythan Gilder’s digestive system before confirming they are the stolen earrings, officials said.
