Forward progress of the Sepulveda Fire that erupted quickly overnight off the 405 freeway near Getty Center in Los Angeles was contained at 45 acres early Thursday morning. Evacuation orders for that one were lifted.

Firefighters made progress on the more than 10,000-acre Hughes Fire Friday, which sent thousands fleeing after sparking near the Los Angeles County community of Castaic. Some mandatory evacuation orders have been downgraded to warnings while containment of the wildfire rose over Thursday.

LA County Sheriff says about 31,000 people were under mandatory evacuation orders while another 23,000 were under evacuation warnings.

The 10,396-acre Hughes fire reached 56% containment Friday as first responders gained progress on multiple blazes burning in Los Angeles County, which is expected to receive some rain over the weekend.

A 10-acre brush fire burning on the east side of the Sepulveda Pass near Bel-Air prompted an evacuation warning.

A fire was burning Thursday morning in Bel-Air on the eastern side of the 405 Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass. The fire was burning uphill, toward Sepulveda Fire Road. At around 11:15 p.m., winds in the area were around 8 to 15 mph,

It was first reported just after 11 p.m. near northbound lanes of the freeway in Sherman Oaks, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
