America's national bird is doing great. The government's proposed cuts to nature protections could put that at risk.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The number of bald eagle nests across Ohio has increased 36% since 2020, further evidence of the national bird’s return to glory in a state where it once nearly disappeared.

According to the Ohio Division of Wildlife, there are 964 confirmed active bald eagle nests in the Buckeye State. That’s according to the 2025 bald eagle nest census, which was compiled after more than 1,800 reports from citizen scientists across the state.
