Vientos has been in this position before. He lost the third base battle ahead of the 2024 season and made the most out of multiple big league opportunities before finally getting his shot. Once he replaced Baty as the everyday third baseman at the end of May 2024, he quickly became the Mets’ best power hitter.
One season later, Vientos has become a non-factor in the Mets lineup. This season, he’s hitting .226 with a .638 OPS. He hasn’t hit a home run since May. Carlos Mendoza hasn’t been penciling him into the lineup much with his massive regression.
The New York Mets could be on the hunt for outfielders at the trade deadline. They could target a former All-Star on a struggling team to help gear up for a postseason run.
