The 40-pound ridley sea turtle was found dead at Sunset Beach near Fort Stevens State Park on the Oregon Coast.

When sea turtles are found on Oregon or Washington beaches it’s usually due to hypothermia, and they rarely survive, the aquarium said. Those that do live are taken to the Oregon Coast Aquarium or the Seattle Aquarium. When stabilized, the turtle is transferred to a center in California, where it is released back into the wild in warmer waters.
