Odisha and West Bengal governments have begun evacuating people from areas vulnerable to the impending cyclone. Indian Coast Guard, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and other forces have also begun their preparation to ensure ‘zero casualties’ because of cyclone Dana.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area has been created in the east-central Bay of Bengal. This would eventually move northwestward and is expected to highly intensify into a possibly severe cyclone storm by October 23,

The cyclone is expected to hit Odisha and West Bengal by October 24, bringing heavy rainfall and potential landslides

The India Meteorological Department said in its forecast, "…the system is very likely to cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 and early morning October 25 as a severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph with gusting 120 kmph.

IMD Director-General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said that the system is expected to evolve into a powerful cyclonic storm, with significant to extremely heavy rainfall expected in parts of Odisha starting October 23.

Cyclone Dana heading towards East India coast is expected to strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm. It is likely to make landfall late on Thursday, October 24, according to India Meteorological Department.
