Punxsutawney Phil made his annual prediction in Pennsylvania, and the groundhog saw a shadow, meaning the United States is set for six more weeks of winter.

On Wednesday at 9:19 p.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated winter weather advisory in effect until Thursday at 4 a.m. for Lawrence, Beaver, Allegheny, Washington, Greene, Westmoreland and Fayette counties.

Meanwhile, a swath of the Central and Eastern U.S. was under winter weather advisory, which the NWS issues "for any amount of freezing rain, or when 2 to 4 inches of snow (alone or in combination with sleet and freezing rain), is expected to cause a significant inconvenience, but not serious enough to warrant a warning."

On Tuesday at 4:16 p.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated winter weather advisory valid for Wednesday between midnight and noon for Lower Columbia River, Tualatin Valley, West Hills and Chehalem Mountains,

A winter weather advisory was issued by the NWS Eureka CA on Tuesday at 12:33 p.m. in effect until Wednesday at 3 a.m. for Southwestern Humboldt.

On Wednesday at 1:41 a.m. an updated ice storm warning was issued by the National Weather Service valid from 7 p.m. until Thursday 10 a.m. for Westmoreland Ridges, Fayette Ridges and Higher Elevations of Indiana.

Allegheny, Westmoreland, Washington, Beaver, Butler and Armstrong Counties are some of the areas under the advisory from 7 p.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday.
