Volunteers craft floats using flowers and other plant material to prepare on Monday for the Rose Parade, also known as the Tournament of Roses Parade, in Pasadena, Calif. The parade is held every New Year's Day ahead of the Rose Bowl college football game.

Tennis icon Billie Jean King is the grand marshal of the annual Tournament of Roses event, which airs on Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Bob Mellano is supplying the flowers and foliage for 21 of the 39 Rose Parade floats. The Hearts rose is grown outside Bogotá in carefully controlled greenhouses.

An extra day has been added to Floatfest, where 39 floats displayed along two miles of Sierra Madre and Washington Boulevards are up for viewing.

Floatfest: A Rose Parade Showcase, is open on January 1, 2, and 3. This 2-mile display features Rose Parade floats after their appearance on the parade route. Each year, nearly 70,000 visitors go to Sierra Madre and Washington Boulevard in Pasadena for a rare opportunity to get up close to these incredible floats and admire the details and creativity that make each display unique.
