LOWELL, Mass. — Authorities are continuing to scour the Merrimack River for a young boy who was swept away after falling into the water over the weekend. Azriel Lopez-Fontanez, 4, slipped and fell into the water while fishing with his mother and siblings on Saturday in Lowell in the area of Arcand Drive.

A Massachusetts police department will increase the presence of its officers on Wednesday as it searches for a 4-year-old boy who went missing in a nearby river over the weekend.

Rescuers are searching for a 4-year-old child who fell into the Merrimack River in Lowell on Saturday. Police say that the child fell into the river just before 6 p.m. near the Tsongas Center. The child was identified by his father as 4-year-old Adriel Lopez. Police said it's believe the boy was quickly pulled into the river's current.
