Macy’s Inc. unveils a list of more than 60 stores slated to close this year as the retailer struggles to right itself amid diminishing foot traffic at remaining stores and breathe new life into its business.

Macy’s is closing several dozen stores as part of a previously announced turnaround plan to save the beleaguered retailer.

Macy's is closing 66 store locations that it has said are underperforming. The closures are part of the storied retailer's turnaround strategy. The company referred to the brick-and-mortar stores it's shuttering as "non-go-forward" locations.

Macy’s is proceeding with dozens of planned store cuts across the United States, including in the New York City area, as its strategic focus zeroes in on sustainable, profitable growth. Macy's Almeda location will close in March, marking the departure of the Almeda Mall's final anchor store and leaving 72 employees out of work.

With Macy's announcing it's closing two Sacramento area stores, one at Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights, the other in Downtown Commons by the Golden 1 Center, that opens an opportunity downtown.

The county purchased a 9-acre plot from Macy's for $6.5 million that currently holds one of the retailer's soon-to-close stores, Sameer Sidh, Baltimore County senior deputy administrative officer, confirmed Wednesday.
