SEOUL (Reuters) -South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said on Tuesday he would hold his first meeting in Tokyo with his Japanese counterpart Takeshi Iwaya since taking up his post this month before travelling to the U.S. to support trade negotiations.

In an unusual move, Seoul’s foreign minister visited Tokyo before Washington, as the Asian neighbors emphasized the importance of maintaining stable relations.

There has been cautious optimism in the South that the North may respond positively and may even show willingness to re-engage in dialogue.
