FOXBOROUGH — The hierarchy in the New England Patriots quarterback room is no secret. Drake Maye is the starter, while the team brought in Joshua Dobbs this offseason to serve as the backup quarterback, which also provides a veteran presence in the room.
Woodson was selected by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL draft out of the University of California. For his final three years with the Golden Bears, Woodson had a starting role. Specifically in 2024, he recorded 45 solo tackles, two interceptions, and nine pass breakups across 13 games.
"Here's an up-and-coming collection of young talent: the all-new, all-different Patriots!" ESPN's Aaron Schatz wrote.
“I would say any quarterback in this league doesn’t view themselves as a backup,” Dobbs said after the Patriots’ sixth training camp practice on Tuesday. “They view themselves as a person that can step in there, execute the offense, and be one of 32 on any given Sunday.”
The New England Patriots announced on Tuesday that they are signing first-year linebacker R. J. Moton and placing rookie fullback Brock Lampe on injured reserve.
