Lionel Taylor, who starred for the Denver Broncos in the 1960s and became the first wide receiver in pro football history to record a 100-catch season, has died. He was 89.

Taylor's historic 1961 season came just after he caught 92 passes on the Broncos' inaugural 1960 team, making him the only pro football player to ever lead a league with 90 or more receptions in two separate seasons -- a feat which would not be matched again until Sterling Sharpe had three between 1989 and 1993.

Lionel Taylor, a four-time All-Pro and a trailblazer as an NFL assistant coach, died on Aug. 6 at the age of 89, the Broncos announced on Wednesday.
