Pressure is on to reach a deal that would see Hamas release at least some hostages before President-elect Donald J. Trump takes office.

National security adviser Jake Sullivan said that Biden was getting daily updates on the talks in Doha, where Israeli and Palestinian officials have said since Thursday that some progress has been made in the indirect talks between Israel and militant group Hamas.

The Israeli military said Friday it had identified the body of a hostage recovered from a tunnel in southern Gaza as the son of Yosef Al-Ziyadnah, a hostage whose body was recovered earlier this week.
