North Carolina is wading through a deluge of unemployment insurance claims in the wake of the devastation to the western part of the state from Hurricane Helene.

More than two weeks after Hurricane Helene, school systems in western North Carolina were still struggling with lack of water and damage. Schools are not set to reopen until the end of the month. NBC News' Kathy Park reports.

The recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene continue for North Carolinians, but soldiers from Western New York have played a part in easing their struggles. Eleven members of the 107th Attack Wing's Fatality Search and Recovery Team based out of Air Reserve Station spent the past two weeks in North Carolina helping locals put the pieces back together.
