In a rare move, the FTC issued a statement that revealed it referred a complaint against Snap to the DOJ, alleging an AI-powered chatbot is harmful to users.

The Commission said that Snapchat's My AI feature presented 'risks and harms to young users of the application,' while Snap says that the complaint 'is based on inaccuracies, and lacks concrete evidence.

U.S. Federal Trade Commission said on Thursday it has referred to the Justice Department a complaint against Snap, Inc., that alleges its messaging app Snapchat used an artificial intelligence chatbox that harmed young users.

The Federal Trade Commission has taken action against General Motors and OnStar for allegedly sharing details about drivers to third parties without their consent. The agency launched an investigation into the automotive company after The New York Times found that GM had collected data about customers' vehicle use and sold it to third-party platforms used by insurance companies.

“GM monitored and sold people’s precise geolocation data and driver behavior information, sometimes as often as every three seconds,” FTC Chair Lina Khan said in a statement. “With this action, the FTC is safeguarding Americans’ privacy and protecting people from unchecked surveillance.”

General Motors reached an agreement to settle allegations that the automaker shared drivers’ locations and behavior data without their consent, the Federal Trade Commission said.

The FTC will require web hosting giant GoDaddy to implement basic security protections, such as multi-factor authentication and HTTPS APIs, to settle charges that it failed to secure its hosting services against attacks since 2018.

GoDaddy will implement new information-security programs to settle charges that the technology platform failed to secure its website-hosting services and protect its customers from attacks, the Federal Trade Commission said.

The website hosting company was accused of failing to implement robust enough security measures from at least 2018.
