The future of the popular video app is now at the center of a geopolitical tussle between Washington and Beijing.

Specific business arrangements including technology exports must be reviewed by the Chinese government, China's commerce ministry said on Wednesday, in reference to U.S. President Donald Trump's 75-day extension of the TikTok sale deadline.

"We had a deal pretty much for TikTok — not a deal but pretty close — and then China changed the deal because of the tariffs," Trump said on Sunday.
