At the time he died, legendary Beach Boy Brian Wilson was dealing with a series of serious health issues. The maestro behind the band's famous "California sound," Wilson passed away at age 82, according to a June 11 post by his family on Instagram.

The Beach Boys member’s family sought a conservatorship for Brian following the death of his late wife, Melinda.

Labeled by the press as a musical genius while still in his 20s, Brian Wilson produced more than two dozen Top 40 hits as a member of the original Beach Boys. Yet substance abuse and mental health issues eventually forced the singer-songwriter-composer to withdraw from the world just as his professional star was reaching new heights.
