Hello—I grew up in the area, though moved long before the amphitheater was constructed. I believe the name comes from a local medical complex, but originally French Canadian trappers exploring the area in the early 1800s named the small river winding through the valley the Portneuf. The town of Pocatello then grew in the valley, and the restored river ecosystem now provides amazing recreational opportunities and world-class fly fishing. It’s an awesome river, and a pretty cool area to grow up in, as well!
