This was a beautiful square to walk around and stare at all the architecture. Truly transport you back in time. The attached market was quite small. And limited in options. However, the number of caf…Full review by 2001NH

First time visitor to Rouen and made my way to the Place du Vieux-Marche. It was a nice little square with half-timbered buildings and cafes. Looks like a good place for a meal or drink. The only …Full review by CodyDC

hi we will be docking in Le havre from our cruise in April. we were thinking of renting a car and visiting Monets house and garden and then Rouen. Is driving a car recommended over taking a train or public transportation? I was able to book a car for $77 with GPS. there's four of us traveling. Also, is it easy to find parking in Rouen? we will be docking at 7am until 8pm. Since Paris is too far I thought this itinerary would suit us better. Any feedback would be appreciated. thanks!!

Gee, I would not try to drive to Giverny, spend time there, then head to Rouen - it's a lot of driving, not giving you much time at Giverny & Rouen. I would consider just doing Rouen - it's a good sized city and there's lots to see in the old part of the city and maybe you would try to have lunch at the oldest restaurant in France, La Couronne, where Julia Child ate and decided to write her book on French Cooking. Not familiar w/ the parking situation but you could find an car park close to the historic area. It's a charming city by the Seine River. I would be concerned about driving in a different country and making sure I got back to the ship before departure. Giverny is lovely if you are really into gardening & it's a very charming village but there are no real Monet paintings in the house, just prints. Better to do Giverny when you have a trip to Paris - it's just outside of Paris. Just giving you my two cents. If you really want to do Paris, Giverny & Rouen, I suggest a Seine River cruise - that's what we did.

As I recall, it was a short walk from the Seine to the Cathedral, perhaps four blocks, and the old town square was about six or seven blocks further. There was relatively limited vehicle traffic--everybody was on foot, the better to experience the many shops and cafes and historic sites; it's a dense area. The staff on your boat will likely have the best advice about whether to walk or ride (and might be able to suggest a favorite cab company, if you do opt to ride). It's a beautiful place--enjoy!

Is there a bus or tram from the station to Viuex Rouen? Is there a public transportation from the station to the old town?

You can walk from the railway station downhill and you'll be in the streets of old Rouen in five mins. Take a slight left and you'll pass Jeanne d'Arc's Tower. Go down to the Cathedral, and then right along rue de la Monnaie to the Vieux Marché. If you're visiting for a morning you can see it all and end with a nice lunch before the train back to Paris in the afternoon.
