This is a very nice palace and grounds. The water front location is very impressive. The only downside for me is that you are not allowed to take photos inside the palace.Full review by Steve_Grant1

My hotel is located in the old section of Istanbul near Hagia Sophia. What is the easiest way to get to the palace? Do they have Uber in Istanbul? Are taxis super expensive? Not sure I want to figure out public transportation.

Taxis are super expensive especially as the drivers tend to take advantage of tourists and inflate the prices. Use public transport. It is quite simple and very cheap.
Is it free to walk around the exterior and grounds? Not really interested in entering the palace interior only taking photos of the exterior and grounds.
Can we visit on our own or with we need a guided tour? To visit the palace pre-reservation is required? Can we buy the tickets directly from the ticket offices? witout rezervation? Thank you

You absolutely can do it on your own. You just walk into the ticket office, which is right on the property, then queue to get into the inner courtyard area and there's another booth where you can get the audio sets, which are free, and you do not have to lose your place in the queue. No pre-reservation required unless you are planning on going at a particularly busy time. The tickets are fairly expensive.
