Mostly hotels and apartments but very pretty area. A few lovely bars. (Bamboo Cocktail bar was amazing) quite quiet area but perfect for relaxing. Great beaches with dark gold sand.Full review by IJ F

Lovely beach, not too far to walk from our hotel, Abora Atlantic. Beach is easy to access and has good choice of restaurants near by. Beach also has first aid hutFull review by Emma Y

Nice beach, lounge chairs are 9 Euros for a couple. Very shallow going into the sea, so you feel quite safe. We really liked it. A bit windy.Full review by MTS-82

Hi ljs177, There are only two restaurants near the beach. El Capitan, the largest, on the prom at the rear of Hotel Costa Canaria. Also Restaurant Balcon on the Punta Morro end of the prom. Loopys is on the corner next to the Melia Taramindos Hotel. Most others are in the Centro Comercial about 15 minute walk from the beach. It's nothing like the bigger PDI resort.. A lot smaller, quieter and more reserved. The bus runs regularly through San Agustin and of course there are Taxis so you can get to larger places if you wish. I have done reviews on San Agustin Beach, Centro Comercial and Hotel Costs Canaria. If you read them you may pick up more about this resort. We have spent 6 weeks here in the last year. We enjoyed it. Don't be nervous just enjoy it. Have a great Holiday.
Q:

Q:
Is the sand black
A:
It is a mix of golden Saharan sand and black volcanic sand. I personally think it looks nice, it is however very very hot when dry and in full sun so I would recommend sandals
Q:
would it be suitable for parents and 2 teenagers over new year... much going on?
A:
I think that SAN Augustine is the best place to stay on Gran Canaria. Lovely beach and lots of bars, excellent restaurants. First time here but am sure we will return.
