Walks are guided by locals, walking sticks are available for hire for $USD 3 and horses $USD 30-40. As soon as you arrive you are jostled and they follow you all the way up which is a bit annoying be… Full review by Ross P

The guides for the volcano are local guides that work the volcano. You can’t hike the volcano without one. There are a lot of guides at the sight but most don’t speak English. Gringo Tours in Suchitoto, El Salvador hired Jimmy, the volcano guide, for us. He spoke very good English.

We saw lava but it is not something that is there all the time. It may be worth checking Instagram to see if recent photos show lava? Or calling the guides ahead.
